After graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in journalism, I started taking photography classes with the intention of a career in photojournalism. Instead, I started shooting portraits of family and friends and was instantly hooked! I started my business and never looked back.
When I'm not behind the camera, you can find me at home with my husband Paul and our two sons, Charlie and Archie. Our hands (and hearts) are very full but there is never a dull moment at our house.
My philosophy
I believe weddings are a social celebration of a very sacred commitment. I feel honored to participate in every wedding I shoot and treat both the day and the couple with the highest level of respect. My approach is to document your wedding day in the most authentic way possible, as it unfolds; with all the grace, distinction and style that is possible today in wedding photography.
I strive for images that are the perfect combination of iconic elegance and fresh style. I believe your wedding photographs are your first heirloom as a new family. I believe photographs belong in your hands, not on a hard drive. And I believe wedding photography should feel timeless and clean, so that fifty years from now, all you see is the love and beauty of your first day of marriage, not some over-processed, over-posed, over-photoshopped versions of yourselves.
from engaged to i do
From the first consultation, to the engagement session and wedding day itself, I pride myself on delivering a one-of-a-kind client experience. I want my client's photos to truly reflect their personalities, both as individuals and as a couple, and I can only do that when I know their story. I am always happy to assist with timelines or photography ideas. I also send out a comprehensive questionnaire to all my clients prior to the wedding to collect all of your important information beforehand. Then you can really be present in the moment and enjoy yourselves and guests. Leave the rest to me!
I believe your wedding photos are your first heirloom as a family and that they tell your legacy-the beginning of your story as you build a life together. Your photos belong in your hands, not on a hard drive. I shoot to ensure your photos will endure a lifetime or more, and I offer quality heirloom products such as albums to pass down.

This is your time together.
I believe having an engagement session is important for several reasons. This time allows you, as a couple, to get comfortable in front of the camera and showcase your personalities in a more casual setting, while creating some fun, memorable images for wall portraits, a guest book or save the dates.
It also serves as a great way to settle any nerves about having your photo taken before the wedding. During an engagement session, I talk constantly to my clients and provide nonstop instruction and guidance. This way, you're never left feeling awkward or wondering what to do. And by the time it's your wedding day, you effortlessly fall into those "poses" that we did during your engagement session because it feels familiar. Your wedding portraits will look more natural as a result.
How do we reserve our date?
A non-refundable retainer of 20 percent of your collection in addition to a signed contract are required to hold a date.
How many photos will we receive?
I never guarantee a set number of images in your final gallery, simply because each wedding is so different. A typical 8 hour wedding with two photographers will yield 600+ photos in the final gallery.
What happens if you get sick or have an emergency?
In my 7 years of shooting weddings, I have never missed one and hope I never do! But things do happen, so I always have a backup plan in place in the event of an emergency.
When we will see our photos?
I love to post sneak peeks of your wedding and engagement sessions to my social media within a day or two. I will send you the final gallery 4-6 weeks after your wedding. Engagement sessions are in delivered 1-2 weeks.
Thank you so much for considering me to be a part of your wedding day! If you’re interested in working with me, the next step is to set up a time to chat! You can reach me directly at hello@mackenzieorth.com
